Can a photo of my family be sold without my permission?

We had family photos done at a professional photographers’, and now I see that she has sold one of the pictures to a local business for use in their waiting area. Is this allowed?

Without an agreement, possibly no. Depending upon where you live (as this is often a state law), you could have privacy rights over your likeness. Usually, a photographer would ask you to sign a model release at the photo shoot to give them permission to sell pictures of you.
