McWay Cove Waterfall along Big Sur

This is a real ‘’PhotoSecret’ that you can easily drive past without seeing. The slender idyllic waterfall plunges 50 feet directly into the Pacific Ocean ’like milk from a pitcher’. It is one of only two Californian waterfalls that flow into the ocean - the other, Alamere Falls, is in Point Reyes but is less attractive and accessible.

McWay Cove is part of Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. The fall is just visible from Highway 1 but if you didn’t know it was there you wouldn’t see it.
